Sablet
Rich in history, Sablet is one of the top Cote du Rhone wine producing villages situated in the heart of Provence in the foothills of Mont Ventoux.
The oldest part of the village - Les Remparts - where the house is situated, is made up of narrow streets built in a circular fashion providing it's inhabitants protection against numerous invaders over many centuries. Today, the village has expanded beyond the remparts but has remained a small and friendly village with an honest and 'real' quality.
It has two Boulangeries, a butcher, two grocery stores, a florist, a pharmacy, a Cave (wine shop), a small Medical Centre, a tabac/gift/newspaper shop and a bank (with ATM). There is a village cafe/brasserie, two restaurants and a Pizza take away in the main square. Within a short drive there are numerous other restaurants and cafes, some of which have been awarded michelin stars.
Nearby are the larger towns of Vaison la Romaine to the north, Carpentras to the south and Orange to the west and the regional center of Avignon, 30mins away. All of these towns have weekly markets, shopping and large supermarkets plus many excellent restaurants. In the summer there are many concerts, theatrical events and festivals. For Antique hunters take a drive down to the town of Isle sur la Sorgue - with it's amazing market every Sunday and then perhaps continue on to Fontaine de Vaucluse to find the source of the largest natural springs in Europe.
If you are looking for breathtaking views and scenery there are plenty of sightseeing trips one can take.
